Mesa Arts Center

We were able to see the Best of AZ Watercolor Association show the other day at the Mesa Contemporary Arts Center. A beautiful Art Center with many show rooms, studios and a store for its members to show & sell their work. The Watercolor was wonderful at the show, I recognized only one of the artist's name but am sure the other artist are well know too. Betsy Dillard Stroud had just given a workshop in Lubbock that many of my friends were able to take & many years ago I was able to take one of her mini workshops at a trade show in Houston. I was also familiar with her work because of the publications she has been in. We were able to see her Painting "Cosmic Cowgirl," it was an acrylic , collage & watercolor painting. It was also stamped as all her neat pantings are. We enjoyed all the show & saw some more fabulous paintings there.

This is a Christmas card with some of that white rain that is so pretty & so needed in TX. I guess TX got the Christmas Snow early. Used an imaginary scene of the Southwest because that is one of my very favorite places to be.

Starry Night after Van Gogh

I took a couple hours workshop with Willard Coe. We each did our version of Van Gogh's Starry Night. Only got 3 photos because camera was acting up. I think Starry Night is my favorite painting of all paintings. Just imagine what he could have done if he could have lived longer. He died at a young age & wasn't a painter all his life. So wonderful that we are able to see his master pieces. The single painting is mine. The teacher standing by one of the paintings we were using for reference.

Texas Blues

I did a little research on the TX Bluebonnet & found some interesting facts about them. Blue Bonnets covered the wild TX prairies. Indians have some fascinating tales about them. The early day Spanish Priest gathered the seeds from them & threw seeds around their Mission's.
This practice caused people to think the Blue Bonnets came from Spain. This can't be true because 2 of the prominent Blue Bonnet's can be found no where else in the world except TX
Click to contact the artist for more information about this painting. It is the TX flower & includes 5 different species of Blue Bonnets. That would explain why a different Blue Bonnet was on an older TX map & the Blue Bonnet that I was familiar with when I was a kid back in the good old days. Blue Bonnets are a trade mark of TX. The Blue Bonnet that I knew was really in the shape of a lady's hat. If you have never seen these fields of beautiful blue it is worth the trip.

One lump or Two

This is my third painting of antique toys for our Museum Christmas show. I have the old dolls & a porcelain doll and an old Teddy bear. The ball & jacks brings back memories of when I learned to play jacks. I was probably somewhere around 3 years old when my Daddy got down on the floor with me & taught me to play jacks. The monkey was a gift from & old friend who made it from men's work socks. Audie always made a wonderful chocolate cake for everyones birthday. Cake was soon gone but I will always have my birthday sock monkey to help me remember Audie.

Children's Stories

This is the second painting finished (I think) of my Antique Toys for our Museum Christmas show. This Bugs Bunny & Smoky Bear belonged to my son Robbie. Smoky Bear went on many trips with us. Bugs was in pretty good shape until Ricky, Robby's older Brother & Robby decided to do surgery on him & remove his voice box. I think they told me they wanted to see how it worked . Poor Bugs could no longer ask What's Up Doc. The old children's books are from my collection of old books. Mother West Wind stories, The New Look & See reader and Sergeant Preston & his wonder dog Yukon King are just a few of my books that I have managed to find through the years in Antique Stores all over the USA. The Bear is a patchwork bear & the cow is an Elsie toy. Fun to remember my childhood & my Boys when they were young.

MI Lake

I have been so busy getting ready for 3 shows that it has been awhile since I posted. I hope to finish some of the paintings & post soon. This is a watercolor sketch of one of the Great Lakes Lake Mi. Coldest water I have ever been near. Only a finger touching the water told me right quick that water was too cold for this Texan who is more used to warm water swimming. Very pretty place though. Wish we had some of that great MI water down here in our TX Lakes.

Sketchbook Tulips Linda Rupard

This is a watercolor with ink from my sketchbook . We are so grateful for rain & cooler weather. Maybe it will help our lake levels to improve & hope the pasture grasses can green up a bit before our first freeze. Can't believe that fall is already here. Rain should help this dry thirsty & burned land to get some green again. Yea, no water rationing now.

Hunting

This is a commission piece I did . I love dogs so did enjoy doing this one. I had a smaller dog like this one that was a great tracker & pointer. Guess they just know how to do this because we had him from a baby & he had never been trained. Archie Ball was a short dog so when he was on the trail of a rabbit in the pasture he would jump up above the bushes & we could see him then & he could see what he was chasing . He also found a Mama dog with several babies & went in a point when we walked by the old shed that she had gone into to have her babies. A stray dog that someone had dumped in the country. So sad that people do that. Sometimes they cant find water food, or shelter.
