Come On. Linda Rupard

D

This is watercolor  on paper and smaller one is on clay board.  Painted from photos I took while on a wonderful art retreat at Ghost Ranch in October.   This was our leader
Darla Bostick who took us on trails and tours that were places made   famous by artist Georgia O'Keeffe.   I was always dragging behind because I like to get all the photos I can & sometimes I just cant quit clicking.   Such a fun trip and lots of new friends and new things to do.   You know U are having fun when ladies start breaking into song or dance.  A wonderful art studio and art experience that happens every year & cant wait until I can go again.

Morning, Sunshine Linda Rupard

This Rooster is done on an old watercolor that I recycled,  leaving some of the under painting showing.     I flipped it and    left  the small  ceramic chicken  and the bird-nest with the tiny  eggs showing .    Other areas of the old painting can be seen  in the new painting that left unexpected things happening.   Really love seeing something else in a painting and being able to bring it out.   300 LB Arches watercolor paper.

TX Horny Toad Linda Rupard

The TX Horned lizard or (horny toad)  is a flat bodied & scary-looking lizard.  The head has numerous horns, with 2 central head spines being much longer then the others.   Horned toads are brownish with fringed scales running along each side of the body.   They can be found in some of the semiarid parts of south-central US to Northern MX.
The TX horned  toad is currently listed as a threatened species in TX.  It is illegal to have one.   I remember when I was growing up we lived in the country & we saw many of these sweet lizards, but it  has been a very long time since I have even seen one.  For a while back in the 50's & 60's tourist wanted them for pets and taking them out of their natural habitats they would die.  Horned toads will puff up & become very fat when threatened causing its scales to protrude.  They can squirt an aimed  stream of blood  from corners of  eyes & sometimes  the mouth.  Confuses predators and mixed with a chemical it is foul tasting to canines.
As 70% of horned toads diet is harvester ants, supplemented  with termites,  beetles & grasshoppers, part of their  decline is blamed on overuse of pesticides & red imported fire ants, both destroy harvester ant colonies,  the main source of food for horned toads.

Primary Colors Linda Rupard

I went to Lamesa and painted with JoBeth and a fun group of artists Tuesday.  It was a real fun play day.  Teacher JoBeth did a demo  then everyone painted what ever they wanted .  I took a pot of flowers so I painted my still life  Poppy bouquet in two different ways.  The first one is on 1/4 sheet of Arches watercolor paper .  I wet the paper front & back  then put a light watercolor wash on the wet paper.  After this was dry I did some negative painting & brought out the color & shapes of the poppies.     With  the second painting showing more flowers I worked on  a  1/2 sheet of Arches watercolor paper.   This one I put the water  color down  pretty much as  I went along on dry paper softening edges with water.   After it was dry I added more details & some washes over areas that needed it.   Always enjoy going over  and just running away from all the distractions for a whole  day.  Yes !
Snyder artfest will start April 25,  Friday night  6 to 9   and 10 to  4 Saturday, April 26.  I hope to see you there,  if you are close by come on down to see us.
