I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving with Family & Friends.   Part of our Family were able to join us Thanksgiving Day.   Maybe someday we all can get together.   MI is a long way from TX so
only the TX Kids were with us.  I have been painting Christmas cards as fast as I can getting toward that time again to send Greetings.   So glad I got Christmas Decorations up early this year,  nice to enjoy them longer.  Studio is getting better. I can almost see it getting set up & hopefully organized so

Happy Thanksgiving Everybody

This Hay-bell Turkey  in our neighbors yard is really neat.    This really looks like Thanksgiving so wanted to share with all my friends & is great because I didn't get a Thanksgiving card made.   So much for us to be thankful for in our country .  Happy Thanksgiving ya'll !!!!!!!!
This is the Curator of our Heritage Museum who came to our Big Spring Art Association meeting & gave a very interesting talk about the history of our town. Tammy has written 3 books & shared many photos & lots of history of our area in TX.   Pretty lady was smiling when I lined up photo but I caught her with a frown of concretion (sorry Tammy)  trying to answer all our questions.  Books & jewelry & lots of neat things are available in our museum gift shop.    The necklace Tammy is wearing came from the gift shop in the museum.  Many great shows are coming up at the Museum so hope everyone will drop in for a visit if you happen to be in our area of W. TX..

West TX Art Guild Demo Linda Rupard

Click to contact the artist for more information about this painting.

Leada gave  the demo for the Big Country Art Show in Colorado City Sat.  She showed how to make stamps .  She was assisted by Grand Daughter  Katie who fetched & carried.   Beautiful show with lots
of good work there.    I know the judge had a hard time judging because there was wonderful work all around the room.       I have been working on  the Old Masters Show for the  Caboose Watercolor Society   show coming up in May at the Heritage Museum .     I also have a Museum show in July so working furiously in my unorganized studio.      Fun to be working on shows.  I think we may get more done that way.
This is a Christmas card I am working on I will put color on my Christmas decorations, not sure if I will just use one color or more.

Birthday Party By Linda Rupard

Click to contact the artist for more information about this painting.

I did have to work on the door  so the Happy Birthday sign was more visible.
I just have to put many layers of varnish then it will be ready to go to Gallery.  These 3 12 X 12
Paintings were fun,  but lots of time & work went into them.   Even working on 3 at a time with the same colors of papers  takes a lot more work & time then just painting.  But I like to have at least
3 or more  paintings going at a time anyway.   Then I can go to another while one is drying &
study the others that are  lined up where I can see them.   Painting is work but such a joy to be
able to see  a blank place fill up with color & form.  I think whatever you use to make your art is
okay, most of the time anyway.      The most important thing you use is the creativity  to finish the piece.   If you ever wanted to paint or create now is the time to jump in, wonderful workshops &
Classes are out there.   Many art shows, galleries & Museums have art to see , admire & give you inspiration .     There will be an all day art show happening in Colorado City August   17 in the
Civic Center downtown.  Take paintings to show between 8:30 & 10:00 pick up at 4:30,  If you just want to enter show it will be open for viewing 12 until 4:00.  Not in this area of West TX  just check newspaper or internet there is  something with art going on almost every week or so somewhere maybe  near you.   I have paypal avaible if interested in purchasing  any of my paintings.

Birthday Party By Linda Rupard

Click to contact the artist for more information about this painting.

This is my third painting going to Betz  Gallery in Houston ,  almost finished
Just need  to check it & finish up & varnish.   The  little boy had been looking at the balloons
and when he started to walk away I snapped this photo.  Only the little boy & the balloons were in photo the rest  just happened.  I think the balloons were tied to a trellis at an outdoor cafe,  maybe in MI.    Not the Southwest adobe I added.   If I change anything I will post tomorrow.

A Real Ham By Linda Rupard

Click to contact the artist for more information about this painting.

This happy Pig looks like She is singing so musical notes are coming out of her mouth.
Seems like She is a Ham!   This is a 12 X12 collage on cradle board, with sides matching the front.
This is my second painting going to Betz Gallery in Houston .  small photo is the right side edge where her curled tail & back leg set.  Some words are collaged on the background.     I used an older larger
watercolor painting I had done years ago for my inspiration.     Name of that painting is La La La.   Well,  for some reason I cant find the edge photo maybe the next post I will  be able to post edge photo.

I think I can call this finished  .    This   collage painting is on  a cradle canvas with   2
inch edges collaged to match the painting, wired and  ready to hang, no frame needed.
I have 2  more going on   12 X 12  cradle boards.    The small photo is the edge of the
painting shown. These three paintings  are going to Betz Gallery in Houston for their 12X 12
show in Nov.     Wow, it is Nov.  seems like it got here fast this  year.  I hope all my friends
in New York & the East coast are getting through this  terrible weather they are having &
& haven't lost anything to the winds, fires & floods.

Skull Collage in progress Linda Rupard

I am working on this skull collage 12x12 cradle board.  May take out the pots & rug behind the skull,  working in acrylic & collage.  Also working on a 24 X 24 skull & mountain acrylic on 24 X 24  cradle board canvas.  Hopefully I will have both finished by next week to post .  Everything slowed down again because I am also trying to get my studio going again after it flooded  and I lost lots of things.  We are still going through & throwing away things that got too wet to save I hated to loose the area carpet we had just had in for a week but it had to go.    Husband sealed the area where  we think water came in I am looking at carpet tiles this time so they will be easier to replace if something does get spilled or dropped  on carpet.  Though it could flood again if we get 10 inches of rain.  The only time I have ever saw that happen here  in our area of West TX.    I am saving all the outside edges for painting & only carpeting  in the middle of the studio  area.  I didn't want just cement for all the floors.  I  may paint that part later on.

Rose Trellis Linda Rupard

I went to Lamesa last week ,  been awhile & I enjoyed the class & visiting with friends.  My friend Estelle went with me & we got lots of art talking &  got to paint some too .  I painted this from a photo I had taken in a GroceryStore floral shop.  The young Lady was glad for me to take photos because I wanted to paint  her creations.   I started with washes & the lilies  & roses became something else  or very  different  then the original photo.  We are still working to get the studio into shape after it flooded.  I guess a working artist's studio is always  an ongoing change & organizing but maybe someday it will get there.

Suzanne McNeil workshop Linda Rupard

Click to contact the artist for more information about this painting. More excited classes at the Santa Fe Expo. I was fortunate to be able to take a Zentangle & Watercolor class from Suzanne McNeil who has had several books published on Zentangle & is a certified teacher of Zentangle. Suzan went to the creators of Zentangle Rick Roberts & Maria Thomas and learned from them so She become a certified Teacher. Many Zen patterns (tangles) were inspired by Indian henna, Celtic art, Zuni & Native American pottery and Islamic tiling. I had trouble getting the patterns down right so just added more lines. So glad Suzan says that no mistakes are made in Zentangle. So you can just go with them & create .

Tom Lynch Workshop Linda Rupard

Click to contact the artist for more information about this painting.

I feel so lucky to have been able to go to Santa Fe  to the Art Expo  event last week.  I had workshops with 3 fun teachers.    First  WS was with Tom Lynch.  First we were treated to a demo then using our own photos we drew our photo on a small piece of watercolor paper.  Tom showed us how he would paint it on each one's sketch.

Then we tried to paint it like Tom did.   Then he checked each one & critiqued them correcting each one.    For Tom's class you have to use Gemini paper (made in England & distributed  by Stratmore)   it is easy to correct mistakes ,  lift color &  then have the ability  to repaint over the scrubbed  area.  Wonderful paper which I will try to use  some more.  I have always  worked on  140 cold press Arches paper which has been my favorite paper for a long time.

Jury still out on which one will become  my favorite paper.  More Expo fun in next post. Above Tom demo's, first painting is Tom's small demo on my sketch, second painting is mine.  I decided to put clouds over my mountains after I got home.  The chart is found in Tom's book along with many more.  Yes, I had to have a signed Tom Lynch book.

Glen Rose paint out Linda Rupard

Click to contact the artist for more information about this painting.

These are 2 paintings I worked on Sat at the Paint Out in Glen Rose.    First painting is one of the doors into the Courthouse & the second is of an old Post Office that really did have a short door,  around 4 ft tall.      Though I  really like studio painting best,   I did manage to get 2  small paintings going, even through the tears & sneezing.  .  I was able to stay in the shade of the big trees  & this & wind  helped me stay cool enough to stay the day.  Glen Rose is a beautiful little  town  with lots of old buildings, museums ,  trees & rivers and friendly people.   3 rivers make for lots of places to play on or in the water.   We stayed in the Tres Rtrees  camp ground , wonderful  trees & river access .  I would like to live there.   !8 artist were painting around town then a show an reception were at the art museum Sat night.   Poor Tex was trying to help me get setup in a different place & got stung by a Bumble Bee.    That scared me enough that I decided to quit for the day because don't you know that every leaf or bug was a  Bee coming for me.  I still am unable to crop my photos sorry about that.   There is a pie store in town with fresh baked pies,  lots of choices & yes I was bad & checked it out.   Then near Tres Ruees is a store that makes fresh fried pies & I was bad again & had fried pie.  They had many flavors too, even chocolate.  Yummy!!!   Uh oh wonder if that pie had no calories?  We stayed for a week & 1/2 so maybe I didn't do too bad & I did say no most days.

Psychedelic Cowgirl Linda Rupard

Click to contact the artist for more information about this painting.
This is a painting I started many years ago & didn't like .   I put it away &  forgot it.   I came across it a couple days ago & saw possibilities so I reworked figure, hat & face and moved color around keeping lots of the old color showing through.      She can come out of hiding ,   I think I like her enough to frame now.  I will  set it  up & study for a few days  may have to tweak it a bit  yet .

Skull Collage Linda Rupard

This is a collage I started before we moved & it has been lost.   Found it & got excited about working on it again.    I have worked on it most of the day not   finished yet but needs a bit more work  before I can call it finished.     I will study it tonight & hopefully finish it tomorrow.   Used lots of paper from the Cowboy & Indians magazine so lots of western objects can be found in it.   I also used some rice paper on top of the head that had squares in it that are more transparent in the center, so some of the under painting shows through that part.

Chicken Soup Linda Rupard

This is an acrylic on cradle board with edges painted so no framing needed.    Painted from a still life set up & some imagination.    Still needs to be varnished & then wire attached inside the cradle  to eye screws.   This will help the board to  hang flush to wall & makes it easier to keep painting straight on the wall.

Girl in Checks Linda Rupard

Well I am trying again this is not easy burrrr  .    Third time around again, I don't like this new format for my blog.   Guess I just have to keep on trying & maybe I will get er done.    I  have the new Spring 2012 Journaling Magazine & I found an article about a great artist Adriana Almanza.   I love the way she does her eyes in her Doll Dreams article.   So I had to try the eyes in a photograph I have & it was fun to do.   I like the muted backside too so have a photo of it also.   I may have to do this one on canvas or watercolor paper.

Strawberry Pie Linda Rupard

We were eating in a restaurant and Tex had already cut one bite of his Strawberry Pie before I saw what an interesting painting it would make. I don't like Strawberry so Tex had this piece & we took the other piece home for later. The next time we went there it they had chocolate or coconut pie so being my favorite pies I eat one & Tex took the other home for me. Wonder why I didn't think of taking photo of them? Maybe my fork was too busy. That is really sharing , letting someone have you chocolate pie. Yummy! Wonder why the chocolate & coconut pies are so much smaller pieces then the red pies. Um
