London Bridge Linda Rupard

This is a nursery rhyme that most of us sang when we were children. Seems a magical place. The bridge was slowly sinking into the river bed over the Thames River. Built in 1832 by 1924 one side of the bridge was 3-4 inches lower then the other. The Common Council of the City of London placed the bridge on the market. London Bridge was sold to McCulloch Corp for $2,460,000 dollars. Each block was numbered before it was taken apart. Blocks were shipped over to CA & trucked from Long Beach to AZ. where it was reconstructed over Lake Havasy. finished in 1971. Total cost was $5.1 million. An English village stands on the shore of the lake. One of the most popular AZ tourist attraction. Seems a shame that it is not as nice as it was at one time. Lots of the stores in the village are now closed. Guess the poor economy has hit here just like the rest of our country, Still a great way to spend the day. I painted this view of the bridge from a photo I took while we were there.
